Primary Program Grades 1-3

We currently have a class of 10 students ages 5-8. Science and research tell us mixed age learning is valuable and proven method of learning, problem solving, leadership, and teamwork for all learners.

Teacher Qualifications: We have two teachers on staff that are currently licensed in Virginia and qualified to teach all subjects Prek-6th grade. The other three teachers are Forest School teachers that lead small and whole group lessons using our Forest School curriculum - based off of seasons, and local environmental topics.

Daily Rhythm: The 1st through 3rd grade program has an average of 2.5-3 hours of Language Arts & Math instruction.

The remaining time is spent with Forest School topics, playing, Art and Music lessons, and individual projects based on student interest.

Curriculum: We have created 5 Units of Study that incorporate all subject areas, and have projects that are hand -on and student led. We do not use worksheets, but rather journaling notebooks, whiteboards, and math/phonics manipulatives for instruction methods. Our curriculum framework and units of study is available upon request.

Two Day/Three Day enrollment: We are happy to accomodate homeschool families and students who would like to attend on a part time basis. Please know that this option is not a stand-alone program where the student will receive a full academic courseload compared to the full time students. You will have to supplement at home especially in Math and Reading to ensure a complete progression of learning in those subject areas.
